The village council for Rexton looked at recreation needs for the community and region and took the bold step of deciding to build a curling club. Members of the council at the time were Mayor Conrad LeBlanc, Councilors Arnold Daigle, Jim McWilliams, Dave Hanson and Barry Glencross.
The Curling Club was funded through some Government projects but the majority of funding came through borrowing by the Village. In 1985 the club was officially opened. The club learned the game of curling through help from the MCA club and Chatham. Norbert and Andrea Parent were two of the few members who knew how to curl. First president was Dave Hanson. The club held a mens, ladies and mixed bonspiel in its first year and in all subsequent years.
The building is used by the community as a center for a wide range of events, special occasions and fund raisers for groups..
The Club is celebrating its 30th year. We plan on honoring members who started curling in 1985 and are still curling today. As part of the celebration, we will have pins for all members, ice decals and other activities which will be announced later.
